Toms’ New London Store

Solacir Interiors’ Microscreed was recently specified for the flooring finish at Toms’ new London flagship store by Carnaby Street.

The brief was for a polished concrete finish, but to an existing suspended floor configuration. Only Solacir Interiors Microscreed has the tensile strength to overlay a suspended floor, whilst retaining the authenticity of a concrete floor. Floored Genius, one of our approved contractors undertook the work and the results are stunning.

Microscreed to Raised Access Flooring

Imagine a lightweight material that could be used to form a seamless concrete floor and be applied to existing raised access flooring in commercial environments.  A seamless and lightweight alternative to polished concrete flooring.

SEB Bank

Microscreed makes this a reality and it has already been successfully installed over raised access flooring at two high profile projects in London.

The new SEB Bank offices by St Paul’s Cathedral and at Octopus Investments new offices at 33 Holborn.

Working with our approved contractor Floored Genius we have solved the problem by bringing together three specialist flooring products.

  • Dry screed boards
  • An elastomeric base layer
  • Solacir Interiors Microscreed

In the past contractors have tried to achieve this by using marine ply as a sub base, but timber is a living product and it will shrink and expand with time, changes in temperature and the day to day movement experienced by a floor. This results in cracks and jointlines reflecting through where the timber boards meet.

Our unique configuration ensures that a seamless finish is retained through the life of the floor, free of cracks or visible jointlines.

UKTV Microscreed Staircase

Our approved contractor Floored Genius were hard at work last summer in Hammersmith, London helping to create a bespoke and stylish new staircase for multi-channel broadcaster UKTV. The staircase was encased in our Microscreed, which appears as a feature in the new studio and visually explodes into the brand’s nebula-shaped logo as it hits the lower floor.

Feature Staircase in Microscreed

Early on in the design Microscreed was specified by Penson Architects after Aldworth James & Bond suggested the possibility of applying a Microscreed skin to a steel staircase structure, enveloped in timber.

Creating a whole concrete staircase between two floors has obvious structural problems; Microscreed is unique in that it allows designers to keep the urban concrete aesthetic without the issues of a traditional concrete construction, because it can be used to seamlessly coat a solid, lightweight framework of steel and timber.

The Microscreed product is also easier to install and maintain than a traditional polished concrete. The simplicity of the product means it’s ideal for working efficiently to a brief and a tight schedule and Architects and interior designers often choose to work with Microscreed for its easy installation process as well as for its durability and style.

MC Surfaces at the Surface Design Show

MC Surfaces was established to enable the distribution of Grace Construction’s Solacir Interiors’ decorative concrete products to the UK and Ireland.

Solacir Interiors’ innovative Microscreed and Coulis products are widely used on the continent, but until recently were only installed in the UK by specialist flooring company Floored Genius.

MC Surfaces have now set about the task to work with a select group of approved contractors to ensure that demand from Architects and interior designers can be met for these popular alternatives to polished concrete surfacing systems.

MC Surfaces will be exhibiting at this year’s Surface Design Show in collaboration with the SCIN Gallery’s collection of materials that will shock, engage and inspire.
